3 Must Haves for your Next Getaway

Written By Lyan Khazanchi

Summer is quickly approaching its end, and you may have just realized it! Often people are busy working/studying/dealing with life, that they don't get the chance to take advantage of the season and the beautiful weather. Whether you're going on a month-long vacay or just a weekend road trip, packing right and light is essential.

Here are 3 MUST-HAVES for your upcoming getaway:

  1. Jewelry pouches

I am definitely guilty of this. I tend to throw all my jewelry into a side pocket of a bag, or in my makeup and toiletries bag. This is a big no-no. First and foremost, I know you've been in the situation where 15 of your necklaces are tangled into one big ball. It's such a mess!!

A tip for necklaces, is to use drinking straws (yes, you read that right) and loop the necklace into them. Not only does this save you so much time but it barely takes up any space in your luggage/carry on.

Jewelry pouches are also great for keeping your jewelry clean and scratch-free. Having it muddled with other objects can tarnish and decrease its life.

  1. Packing cubes

I've recently discovered these, and they have changed my travels forever. You can buy a set of these for $20-$40 on Amazon. These are so great for saving space but also for keeping all your essentials incredibly organized.

Packing cubes separate your belongings into categories. Here are a couple guidelines I usually follow:

  1. Cube 1: tops, blouses, t-shirts, swimming suits
  2. Cube 2: bottoms, jeans, trousers, pants
  3. Cube 3: intimates, belts, hats, socks, hijabs
  4. Cube 4: jackets, larger outerwear
  5. Cube 5: toiletries, jewelry pouches, hair brush, makeup
  6. Cube 6: electronics, wires, chargers

My BIGGEST tip with packing cubes – ROLL your clothing. You can fit triple the amount of stuff!

  1. Emergency Kit

This is so essential! An emergency kit isn’t necessarily a First Aid kit. It's a combination of everything you'll need regardless of the situation you're in. You can buy these pre-packaged from Indigo or Sephora, but I like to customize my own according to my liking!

Here are the steps:

  1. Buy a small waterproof pouch
  2. Fill with medical essentials – Advil, Band-Aids, Cotton Swabs, Alcohol Wipes, Eye Drops, Allergy Medication, etc.
  3. Makeup remover
  4. Mini toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash
  5. Mini sewing kit
  6. Bobby pins, hair elastics
  7. Safety pins
  8. Deodorant
  9. MatchesBatteries
  10. $20 bill
  11. Granola bar
  12. Gum
